As a member of the BCP Middletown Maintenance Team, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing the production equipment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the technician will develop and implement the maintenance programs necessary to ensure the short-term and long-term reliability of the equipment, as well as lead the effort to optimize maintenance costs, maximize equipment availability and reduce unsafe conditions. This position opening is for night shift only (2-2-3 schedule). Essential Duties & Responsibilities include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, hydraulic and/or pneumatic components in manufacturing equipment; planning, implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs on engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, hydraulics, conveyor systems and production machines to improve reliability; performing routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance; studying equipment manuals to develop audit items and preventative maintenance schedule; performing basic welding duties, fabricating fixtures, jigs, guarding, etc. as needed; installing or assisting in the installation of new equipment, including proper layout and alignment; making preventative maintenance checks and inspections as required and on time; evaluating equipment malfunctions with urgency to minimize downtime; installing, replacing, or changing machine parts and attachments according to production specifications; modifying equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability; performing tasks in a quality fashion by meeting or exceeding internal customers’ requirements; communicating professionally with plant personnel about repair steps, parts ordered, and estimated time to complete repairs or projects; maintaining proper housekeeping expectations for work area, equipment, and tools. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (technical degree/certifications preferred), 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical capability to repair/analyze production equipment, knowledge of heavy equipment, overhead crane and rigging principles, ability to read and interpret blueprints/manuals, proficient communication skills, ability to perform physically demanding work, reliability, dependability, and self-motivation. Additional skills include ability to read and comprehend documents, perform general math calculations, apply common sense understanding to work instructions, and physical demands such as talking, hearing, walking, standing, bending, stooping, using hands, reaching, lifting, climbing, and balancing. Work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and noise requiring hearing protection and PPE.
