As a Senior Regulatory Specialist, you will work with cross functional teams, providing guidance and direction to ensure regulatory compliance across the organization. You will play a crucial role in ensuring all regulatory requirements are met related to the production, distribution, labeling, claims development & substantiation of our pet food products. Primary Duties & Responsibilities In this role, you will serve as a regulatory representative, providing technical expertise and risk assessments related to product labeling, claims, nutrition, and regulatory issues related to compliance and new product development initiatives. In addition, this role will help develop innovative solutions and processes to address future compliance challenges. New Product Development: Provide regulatory guidance and tactical expertise to support the product development process for pet food, chews/treats and specialty pet feed. Deliver clear regulatory direction to Marketing, Legal, and Product Development teams regarding acceptable claims and substantiation plans. Review and approve new product formulations, ingredients, and labels for compliance with AAFCO (including PFLM), FDA, and state regulations. Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrate strong knowledge of AAFCO, FDA and animal feed labeling requirements including Pet Food Label Modernization (PFLM) along with additional state, federal, and international regulations governing the pet food industry. Interpret and apply regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in product development, claims, labeling, and distribution processes. Regulatory Strategy: Help implement regulatory strategies and participate in industry advocacy efforts that align with business goals and objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, marketing, and operations, to ensure regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle. Industry Monitoring: Stay abreast of industry trends, scientific research, and emerging regulatory developments related to pet food. Provide recommendations and guidance to management regarding potential impacts on products and operations. Cross-functional Collaboration: Effective communication skills to participate in cross-functional discussions and ensure compliance information is communicated effectively. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and comprehensive regulatory documentation such as claims substantiation, ingredient lists, product labels, and formulation specifications. Ensure all records and processes are organized, up-to-date, and readily accessible for internal and external audits. Education and Experience Profile Bachelor’s degree in animal/food science or related science; policy, or similar non-science disciplines coupled with an advanced degree or direct relevant and material experience in the animal/pet food industry, human food industry, or related regulatory work. 3-7 years preparing regulatory registration submissions, packaging compliance review, product claims review, or analyzing and interpreting product regulations (e.g., AAFCO, FDA, CVM, USDA, NASC) and foreign regulations Required Skills Accomplished user of Microsoft Teams for communication, file sharing, and virtual collaboration, including managing team channels, hosting virtual meetings, and integrating Microsoft 365 tools. Proficient in SAP is a plus; Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Work Environment Travel up to 10% of time may be required. Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Hybrid work environment (Monday and Friday are work from home, Tuesday- Thursday are in our Earth City, Mo office.
